Top Woodhaven Stories of 2014


Tonight on Radio Free Woodhaven, we’ll start the year-end process of dissecting the past year – and what better way to do it than a big giant list. Click here at 10 PM tonight (Friday 12/19) to listen to it live — if you miss the live broadcast, you can always catch it in the archives.

Here’s our plan – we’ve compiled a long list of the Top 50 stories of the year.  We’ll be listing the Top 25 in a 2-part series in the Leader-Observer over the next two weeks.

Also, we’ll be playing a Christmas Greeting from Woodhaven from 1958 – a real trip back in time!

Jeff Lewis on Radio Free Woodhaven Friday @ 10 PM


We’re LIVE tonight at 10 PM Friday talking about Woodhaven. Tune in tonight to hear an interview with Jeff Lewis of the legendary Lewis’ of Woodhaven, which is being inducted into the Woodhaven Hall of Fame this coming October 10th at Roma View Fine Catering on Crossbay Boulevard (click here if you are interested in attending). Also being honored this year by the Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association is Historian Allan Smith (Man of the Year), Schmidt’s Candies’ Margie Schmidt (Woman of the Year), and The Avenue Diner (Business of the Year).

We’ll also be talking about tomorrow’s Pasta Dinner to help save the Ambulance Corps, we’ll talk about last night’s Woodhaven Town hall meeting and what the Department of Buildings had to say, and we’ll talk about Deputy Inspector Hank Sautner’s appearance at our meeting – and we’ll be joined by our Assemblyman, Mike Miller.

Woodhaven Boulevard, Congressional Candidate on Tonight’s Radio Free Woodhaven

Do You Travel On Woodhaven Blvd? If you do, you’re one of the 26,000 people who take this route every day. And you probably know all too well that traffic congestion makes commutes slow and unreliable, and unsafe for pedestrians.


There will be a public meting on June 16th about this issue — and Jess Nizar from Rider’s Alliance will be joining us tonight LIVE at 10 PM to discuss this meeting and potential changes to Woodhaven Boulevard.

Learn About Pit Bull Rescue Event on Radio Free Woodhaven Friday at 10 PM

There will be a rescue event, focusing on pit-bulls, held at the Forest Park Dog Run (85th and Park Lane South) on Saturday, May 31st at 2 PM sponsored by Bully Moms United for a PITastic Cause ( There will be raffles, a kissing booth and treats for pups!

Radio Free Woodhaven Friday @ 10 PM – Guest Caller: Sister Cathy – School Sisters of Notre Dame

This Friday at 10 PM EST, we’ll be joined by Sister Catherine Feeney, Executive Director of the School Sisters of Notre Dame Educational Center – a nonprofit organization that serves disadvantaged women, teaches them English, teaches them skills that helps them find employment.  They help make people’s lives better.  This show can be accessed through this link – you can either listen to it LIVE on on demand.
